National Yang-Ming College of Medicine enrolled its first class of 120 government-funded students in 1975. Since 1977, Taipei Veterans General Hospital, a national medical center, has been affiliated with the college as its teaching hospital. In 1994, a university status was granted by the Ministry of Education, and the college was renamed National Yang-Ming University – the first university in Taiwan to focus comprehensively on medical education and research. The newly established university included the School of Medicine, the School of Medical Technology and Engineering, the School of Life Sciences, and the Center for General Education.
The School of Medicine at National Yang-Ming University, formerly known as National Yang-Ming College of Medicine, has adhered to the motto of “Genuine Knowledge and Forthright Action, Humane Heart and Humane Hand” with its mission focused on population health and disease prevention.
On February 1, 2021, National Yang-Ming University and National Chiao Tung University merged to form National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, continuing the lone tradition in medical education and research.
Currently, the College of Medicine comprises the School of Medicine, the School of Chinese Medicine, 12 institutes, and 6 programs. It is structured into three major fields: Clinical Medicine, Basic Sciences, and Public Health. The College seeks to recruit outstanding domestic and international students from diverse backgrounds and provide them with excellent training to become professionals capable of addressing the health care challenges of the modern era.
