National Yang-Ming Medical College enrolled its first class of 120 government-sponsored students in 1975. Since 1977, Taipei Veterans General Hospital, a national medical center, has been affiliated as the teaching hospital. In 1994, a university status was approved by the Ministry of Education, and the college was renamed National Yang-Ming University – the first university in Taiwan to focus comprehensively on medical education and research. The newly established university included the School of Medicine, the School of Medical Technology and Engineering, the School of Life Sciences, and the Center for General Education.
The School of Medicine at the National Yang-Ming University, formerly known as National Yang-Ming College of Medicine, has been adhering to the motto of “Genuine Knowledge and Forthright Action, Humane Heart and Humane Hand” with its mission focused on population health and disease prevention.
Currently, the College of Medicine includes the School of Medicine, twelve departments and four programs, covering clinical medicine, biomedical science, and public health. The College of Medicine seeks to recruit outstanding domestic and international students with diverse backgrounds and provide them with excellent training to become professionals in dealing with health care challenges of the modern era.
