NYMU accepted public fund students at the beginning. Under the publicly funded medical education program, all students must serve in rural area after graduation to fill the gap of medical manpower between urban and rural area. It was not until 1988 that NYMU opened for private fund students. However we never forget our mission. School of Medicine signed a MOU with Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) and vow to maintain the public fund student training system in Taiwan. Thanks for MOHW. We will open up more opportunities for students to go to MOHW’s hospitals in remote and offshore areas.
