Two students won Taiwan Medical Development Awards for Outstanding Writings

Ms. Claire Huang from Institute of Clinical Medicine and Mr. Jiunn-Tyng Yeh won Taiwan Medical Development Awards for Outstanding Writings last week.
With the thesis named “HLA class I alleles are associated with clinic-based migraine and increased risks of chronic migraine and medication overuse”, Ms. Huang found Human leukocyte antigen class I genetic variants are positively associated with risk of clinic-based migraine and may contribute to migraine chronification and medication overuse.
Meanwhile Mr. Yeh has spent time on discovering positional effects of premature termination codons (PTCs). In the “Positional effects of premature termination codons on the biochemical and biophysical properties of CFTR”, he used CFTR as a model system to investigate the positional effects of PTCs. His founding not only expand understanding of the molecular physiology of CFTR but also infer therapeutic strategies for different PTC mutations.
