Dr. Kung-Yee Liang, Adjunct Professor at the NYCU College of Medicine and former President of National Yang-Ming University, has been awarded the 2025 Presidential Science Prize in the Life Sciences. The award recognizes his outstanding contributions and global impact in the fields of biostatistics and epidemiology. This honor also highlights the strong research foundation and academic excellence of the NYCU College of Medicine.
Prof. Liang has long dedicated himself to advancing longitudinal research methodologies, successfully establishing a theoretical framework that overcomes the limitations of traditional cross-sectional research. His pioneering work has strengthened causal inference in long-term follow-up studies, and the methodologies he developed have become essential tools in public health, clinical medicine, chronic disease research, and the social sciences—shaping research practices worldwide.
In addition, Prof. Liang has made significant and lasting contributions to chronic disease epidemiology, gene–environment interactions, and statistical modeling. During his tenure at Johns Hopkins University, he mentored numerous leading experts in epidemiology and biostatistics and collaborated with research teams in Taiwan to advance public health research and align Taiwan’s work with global developments. His efforts have helped translate scientific findings into health policies and disease-prevention strategies.
Prof. Liang’s achievements represent a major milestone in the advancement of science in Taiwan and bring great honor to the NYCU College of Medicine. We extend our warmest congratulations and look forward to his continued contributions—through his profound academic expertise and global perspective—to the future of medicine and public health.
